How Often Should You
Really Get a Facial?

The honest answer: it depends on your skin, your goals, and what you're treating. But there's a real, biological reason "every 4 to 6 weeks" comes up so often, and understanding it makes it a lot easier to build a schedule you'll actually stick to.

It comes down to cell turnover

Your skin is constantly replacing itself. New cells form in the deeper layers and gradually migrate to the surface, where older cells shed off. For most adults, this full cycle takes roughly 4 to 6 weeks — which is exactly why treatments spaced on that same timeline tend to compound instead of just maintaining.

Book much sooner than that and you're often working on skin that hasn't finished processing your last treatment. Space things out much further and you lose the compounding effect — each visit starts closer to square one instead of building on the last.

What changes the math

  • Acne-prone or congested skin often benefits from slightly more frequent visits, at least at first, since ongoing extractions and calming treatments help break the cycle of clogged pores.
  • Mature or sensitive skin may do better on a slightly longer interval, giving results more time to settle between more intensive treatments.
  • Maintenance versus a specific goal matters too. If you're working toward a specific result (evening out texture, calming persistent breakouts), a tighter schedule for a few months, followed by a switch to maintenance, is usually more effective than one facial every few months indefinitely.

A realistic starting point

If you're not sure where to start, every 4 to 6 weeks is a safe, effective default for most people. From there, your esthetician can adjust based on how your skin actually responds — which is exactly what a consultation is for.
